Game Recap

The Mustangs trailed 0-2 at the half, but came back stronger in the second period. #1 Carsen Short scored two goals in the second half; the second on Meade’s penalty corner off a pass from Erin Heritage. Southern’s Delaney Sancomb, #21, scored all five goals for the team with assists from #13 Lily Oliver and #20 Sydney Davis. Looking at stats, both teams were closely matched with 9 shots on goal for Meade and 10 for Southern. Meade drew 2 penalty corners compared to Southern’s 4. Meade Goalkeeper, Kaitlyn Thomas-Franz #00, rejected 6 shots on goal compared to the Southern goalie’s 7 blocks. Mustangs Captains’ Player of the Game (POTG) is Lauren Miller for providing excellent defensive pressure and several long out-letting passes to the offense. Honorable mention goes to Erin Heritage who contained the opponent’s mid-field drives, and also supported the Mustang counter-attack inside Southern’s circle. Coaches’ POTG is Carsen Short for tucking a loose ball in between the Southern goalie’s right kicker and post for our first point in regular season, followed shortly afterwards by our first penalty corner goal of the season.
